In the winter, it is so easy to just curl up in comfy pajamas and forget about being active. While these low-key and relaxed days are necessary and important, staying active is just as important. We all need that helping hand that will push us to get to the gym, attend that workout class, or try that new activity.
At VCA, our physicians’ top priority is treating vein disease so that our patients can participate in the activities that they love. We don’t want pain to be an issue or a hindrance that holds anyone back. Below are 7 tips to help you stay active in the winter:
-
Change your mind – Embrace the season! Take time to sit down and evaluate your goals and determine how this season you can take steps forward to achieving your goals.
-
Go out and play! – Whether it’s building a snowman with your kids, ice skating (indoors or outdoors), or sledding in a local park, you can burn calories without even feeling like you’re working out.
-
Take up a winter sport – There are many options, skiing and snowshoeing included, that offer variety and excitement to your fitness routine.
-
Get creative at home – Utilize a workout DVD or personal fitness equipment to keep you active (and warm!) indoors.
-
Try something new – Sign up for a new class or join an indoor sports league to keep you accountable and motivated throughout the season.
-
Set a big goal – and some little goals – Set goals that challenge you and keep you focused on the bigger pictures that you’re working to accomplish
-
Get excited – The winter season is full of wonderful possibilities! Take the time to figure out what works for you, and then get excited for your new adventures.
